Starting and Ending an Evacuation

Introduction

This article will explain how to start and end an active evacuation in EmergencyOS. You can launch an evacuation using the EmergencyOS portal, the onsite iPad kiosk, and/or the iLobby or EmergencyOS mobile companion apps.

Note: The ability to start and end evacuations via the iLobby or EmergencyOS mobile companion apps is limited to customers in the corporate tier of EmergencyOS.

Note: EmergencyOS now has its own companion app, which you can download here (Apple App Store / Google Play Store). EmergencyOS evacuation functionality in the iLobby app will soon be removed.

Starting an Evacuation using the EmergencyOS Portal

Use the instructions below to launch an evacuation from the EmergencyOS Portal:

1. Login to your EmergencyOS Account

2. From the EmergencyOS home page, start an evacuation by selecting the alert icon in the top right corner, as shown below:

3. Select Start Emergency - this will load the Emergency setup page, it will not launch the evacuation or send notifications to anyone.

4. Select the Site and Emergency Profile for the evacuation. An Emergency Profile is the type of emergency you are experiencing (i.e. fire, tornado, etc.)

5. Specify whether participants should receive notifications.

6. If needed, you can include an additional message which will be sent to all participants when they receive the first notification.

• See below for an example of how an additional message is displayed in an email notification.

7.  Select to begin your evacuation.

Once you press Start Emergency, all participants will be notified with the start message and will be prompted to follow the instructions that you have set in your Emergency Profile.

Ending an Evacuation using the EmergencyOS Portal

To end an active evacuation using the EmergencyOS Portal, follow these instructions:

1. Login to your EmergencyOS Account

2. From the EmergencyOS homepage, click the Active Incidents icon in the top-right corner. 

3. You will be taken to the Active Evacuation Management page. Click the Finish Evacuation page, as shown below. Then click Confirm when prompted.

Starting an Evacuation using the onsite iPad Kiosk

Use the instructions below to launch an evacuation from an iPad kiosk that is running VisitorOS:

1. Select the VisitorOS text logo in the bottom-left corner of the welcome screen, as shown below. This will launch the beginning of the emergency evacuation procedure once you enter your PIN code in the next step.

 

2. Enter your Emergency PIN code
Note: The PIN code to trigger an evacuation is set in VisitorOS Portal under Settings > Sites > Features > Emergency Evacuation > Configure 
 
3.  Select Emergency, and select your Emergency Profile. An Emergency Profile is the type of emergency you are experiencing (i.e. fire, tornado, etc.)

4. If needed, you can include an additional message which will be sent to all participants when they receive the first notification.

5. Select Start to begin your evacuation.

 Once you begin your evacuation, a 10-second countdown will be displayed. Press cancel at any time within these 10 seconds to cancel the evacuation. Once your evacuation has started, the kiosk will be locked on an Emergency Mode evaluation screen, as shown below:
 

Once you press start, all participants will be notified with the start message and will be prompted to follow the instructions that you have set in your Emergency Profile.

Ending an Evacuation using the onsite iPad Kiosk

To end an active evacuation using the iPad Kiosk that is currently in emergency mode, follow these instructions:

1. Select the Finish Evacuation button on the iPad kiosk.

2. Follow the prompts to enter your Emergency PIN code. Then click Confirm when prompted to finalize the end of your evacuation.
 

Starting an Evacuation using the iLobby Companion App

Use the instructions below to launch an evacuation from the iLobby Companion App. 

Note: The ability to start and end evacuations via the iLobby or EmergencyOS mobile companion apps is limited to customers in the corporate tier of EmergencyOS.

1. 

1. Open the main menu by selecting the  
    
    
    
2. Select from the main menu 
    
   
3. Pick the desired site for the evacuation.
4. Select whether the emergency event is a drill or an emergency. If you select drill, all of your drill emergency profiles will populate. If you select emergency, all of your emergency profiles will populate.
5. Select the emergency profiles that corresponds with the nature of emergency you are experiencing (ex. Fire Evacuation)
6. If you would like notifications to be sent to participants, please ensure the next section is NOT enabled. However, if you do not wish to send notifications to participants during the emergency event, enable this option.
7. If desired compose a customized message for your evacuees. This will be sent by email.

8. Select to begin your evacuation   
    
   

That’s it! An evacuation can be ended from the main menu or the Dashboard within the mobile app. Use the to access the main menu or select , to complete the evacuation select Finish Evacuation.
