Emergency profiles use a response type to determine how your organization accounts for people and verifies site safety during an emergency or drill. EmergencyOS supports three response types: Roll Call, Building Sweep, and Alert Only.
Compare emergency response types
| Response type | Primary purpose | Required setup |
| Roll Call | Account for each employee and visitor during an evacuation by confirming who has safely evacuated the site. | Set up mustering points as locations for employees and visitors to evacuate to. |
| Building Sweep | Confirm that all configured areas of the building have been physically checked and cleared. | Set up building zones to divide your site into specific sections. |
| Alert Only | Notify employees and visitors without requiring them to take any action. | No prior setup required. |
Roll Call
Use Roll Call when Safety Officers need to account for participants individually after they evacuate to designated mustering points.
During a roll call:
- Participants are directed to the mustering points selected in the emergency profile.
- Safety Officers can use the EmergencyOS app to confirm who has evacuated.
- If the Mobile Status Request add-on is enabled, participants can update their own status through SMS messaging. This lets Safety Officers know when an employee or visitor has started evacuating or needs help.
Building Sweep
Use Building Sweep when Safety Officers need to inspect and clear specific areas of a building to confirm that employees and visitors have exited.
During a building sweep:
- The building zones selected in the emergency profile appear in the EmergencyOS app.
- Safety Officers inspect each zone and update its status as the sweep progresses.
- A zone can be marked In Progress, Sweep Completed, or Request Assistance.
Alert Only
Use Alert Only when you need to notify employees or visitors of an emergency but do not need them to take any action.
During an Alert Only emergency:
- Participants receive the start messages configured for the emergency profile.
