Add the VisitorOS app to Microsoft Teams

You can add the VisitorOS app to Microsoft Teams so hosts receive direct messages when visitors select them during sign-in.

Who can use this feature?

  • You must have access to the Microsoft Teams admin center.
  • Available on the Enterprise tier or with the VisitorOS for Microsoft Teams add-on

How the Microsoft Teams integration works

The VisitorOS Microsoft Teams bot does not require Microsoft Graph API permissions and does not require a customer-managed App Registration in the customer's Microsoft Entra ID tenant.

The integration uses the Microsoft Bot Framework. When the VisitorOS Teams app is installed, Microsoft Teams sends a conversation update event to the VisitorOS bot endpoint. This event includes the information VisitorOS needs to create a conversation reference, such as the tenant ID, conversation ID, and user and channel identifiers.

VisitorOS stores this conversation reference and uses it later to send visitor arrival notifications through the Microsoft Bot Framework. The bot does not request permissions to read Teams chats, access email, access SharePoint content, or query Microsoft Graph on behalf of users.
