Change ID scanning settings

Turn on ID scanning and choose which information is captured when an ID is scanned.

Required tier Enterprise tier. Corporate and Enhanced tier require the ID Scanning add-on. What is my tier?
Required permission Site configuration. This permission is included by default for account administrator and site administrator roles. What is my role?

Configure ID scanning settings

  1. From the left sidebar in VisitorOS, click the Settings Screenshot of the Settings icon. icon, then select Sites.

  2. Select a site.
  3. Click Features.
  4. If ID Scanning is off, turn it on.
  5. Under "ID Scanning", click Configure.
  6. If you do not want visitors to skip ID scanning, turn on ID Scanning is Mandatory.
  7. Under "Scanning Options", select how IDs are scanned:

    • If you want to capture information from the barcode and the printed text on the ID, turn on Barcode and Text.
    • If you want to capture information from the barcode only, turn on Barcode Only.

    Note:

    The information extracted from the barcode varies by region and by ID type.

  8. Optionally, if you turned on Barcode and Text and you want to save an ID photo in visitor records, turn on Save a Photo of the ID.
  9. Under "Capture Information from the ID", turn on the fields you want to capture: First and Last Name, Date of Birth, or Country.
  10. Optionally, if you turned on any field under "Capture Information from the ID", choose whether visitors can edit the captured information.
  11. Under Limit to Specific Visitor Types, select which visitor types are asked to scan an ID.

    Note:

    To edit visitor types, see Manage visitor types.

  12. Click Save.

Troubleshoot ID card not scanning

If the kiosk cannot read the ID card or freezes during the scanning process, use the troubleshooting options below to resolve the issue.

  • Ensure that the ID card does not have dirt, smudges, or scratches on the barcode. 
  • Power off the iPad and then turn it on. For more information, see Apple's article Turn iPad on or off.
  • Reset the network settings. For more information, see Reset network settings on your kiosk.
