iPad Factory Reset Guide

Introduction

In some cases, your iPad may need to be reset to its factory settings and re-connected to VisitorOS using an activation code. This method is used to guarantee that an iPad is running the latest version of the iOS software from Apple, the latest version of the VisitorOS software from FacilityOS, and is connected to the correct site within your account.

Please follow the steps in this guide carefully to ensure that your device is reset and updated properly.

  

Step 1: Generating Activation Code from VisitorOS Devices Portal 

Note: The device tab can only be accessed by Users that have the permissions. By default, Site Administrator & Account Administrator roles are have the permission to access the devices tab.

  1. In VisitorOS, select the device that will be completing the factory reset

  2. Select the “Reset Device” button on the Device Settings
  3. Select the “Yes, reset it” button on the Reset Device prompt
  4. An Activation Code will be generated for the kiosk VisitorOS app to input after completing the factory reset. This activation code does not expire.

Step 2: Begin Reset Using 'Erase All Content and Settings' from iPad Settings Menu

1. Navigate to your iPad settings menu by selecting the Settings icon. 

2. Select General > Transfer or Reset iPad.

3. Select Erase All Content and Settings > Continue > Erase iPad when prompted. 

Your device will begin a factory reset automatically.

 

Step 2: Connect iPad to Wifi and Enroll iPad in Device Management

When the iPad restarts with all content and settings erased, follow the prompts on the screen to begin setting it up:

  • Select your Language. 
  • Select your Region. 
  • On the Quick Start screen, select Set Up Without Another Device at the bottom, as shown below.


 

  • On the Choose a Wi-Fi Network screen, select your Wi-Fi network and enter the appropriate password to connect. If you have a cellular-enabled iPad, you can skip this step.
  • On the Remote Management screen, select Enroll This iPad as shown below.



  • On the Location Services screen, select Enable Location Services. 
    • Note: Location services are used to set the correct time zone on your device which is required for accurate visitor sign-in reporting. 

 

Step 3: Launch VisitorOS App and Enter Activation Code

Once you complete step 2, you will notice that the VisitorOS app and related apps will begin installing automatically, and some other apps are removed.

Once the VisitorOS app is downloaded, select the VisitorOS icon to open it as shown below.

 


Once the VisitorOS app opens, touch anywhere on the screen to begin and then select
Use a code as shown below.

 

 

Enter the 6-digit code that FacilityOS Support provided you with. The VisitorOS app will now initialize and reconnect to your account automatically.  Finally, select OK to allow access to Camera when prompted.  

All done! You will now see your site's VisitorOS sign-in welcome page. 

 

Step 3: Configuring Recommended Settings

The following settings are recommended to ensure that your iPad is running as smoothly as possible. These settings do not affect the core functionality of VisitorOS, but are recommended to ensure ease-of-use when visitors sign in using the iPad.

 

1. Uncheck Shortcuts and Split Keyboard

  • Navigate to your iPads settings menu by selecting the Settings icon. 
  • Select General > Keyboard
  • Uncheck Shortcuts and Split Keyboard if the option is visible

 

 

2. Configure Brightness and Ensure iPad Does Not Auto-Lock

  • Navigate to your iPads settings menu by selecting the Settings icon. 
  • Select Display & Brightness
  • Set Brightness to approximately 70% on the slider. 
  • Select Auto-Lock and set it to Never. 

 

 

3. Disable Auto-Brightness

  • Navigate to your iPads settings menu by selecting the Settings icon. 
  • Select Accessibility
  • Select Display & Text Size
  • Uncheck Auto-Brightness. 

 

 

All done! By taking the time to configure your iPad with the recommended settings, you will ensure that your device is ready for use at any moment. 

 

Step 4: Reconnect your printer (if applicable) 

If you are using a Brother QL-820NWB thermal printer with your iPad, follow the next steps to re-pair it to iPad: 

  • Navigate to your iPads settings menu by selecting the Settings icon. 
  • Select Bluetooth
  • Under devices, select your Brother printer. It will appear as "QL-820NWB###" in the devices menu.
  • Select Pair to connect your printer to your iPad when prompted.

 

Step 5 (Optional): Set Up Guided Access Mode

If you wish to prevent visitors from exiting the VisitorOS app, you can set up Guided Access Mode to ensure that the VisitorOS app cannot be closed.

Please follow the steps in the following article to configure Guided Access Mode. When enabled, this mode will prevent anyone from closing the VisitorOS app unless they have a PIN code that you set up in advance.
